History of the Company

At the end of 1989, a group of business leaders belonging to important Colombian companies contacted a group of Italian entrepreneurs with the objective of starting a company in Colombia dedicated to the growth and process of Agaricus bisporus (white) mushrooms.

Over time, the project developed, and with the support from Suramericana de Seguros, the former Corporación Financiera Nacional S.A., called Corfinsura, Compañía Nacional de Chocolates, Cementos Argos and other shareholders, the corporation called Setas Colombianas S.A.., was constituted in December, 1991. Production began in January, 1994.

Almost US$19 million was invested in the establishment of the company so that Setas Colombianas could benefit from the best technology available on the market.

Setas Colombianas uses technology that combines the best of Italian, Dutch, and Colombian advancements. Setas Colombianas, then, is the most modern mushroom plant in Latin America.

Capacity

Our plant is the second largest plant in Latin America. One distinguishing characteristic is its size -- 33.000 square meters planted in 42 air-conditioned rooms, which can produce 5.800 tons of fresh mushrooms per year. Additionally, the incubation and pasteurization processes take place in 9 tunnels.

The processing area of Setas Colombianas also uses Italian equipment. We can process 2 tons of mushrooms per hour.

Location

Setas Colombianas' production plant is located in the Cuivá Plain, in the Yarumal Municipality, Department of Antioquia, an apt zone for mushroom cultivation due to the climate conditions -- an area that has a high amount of rain throughout the year, assuring the adequate hydration -- good topology, and geography.

Our goal is to achieve optimum profitability and commercialization of the products of Setas Colombianas S.A. in the national and international markets.

Our goal is to lead the Colombian mushroom market while giving brand recognition to our own brand -- Setas de Cuivá -- in both Colombia and abroad. We offer a variety of products to satisfy market needs.

In 2005, Setas Colombianas S.A. has achieved and positioned itself as the cultivator and processor of the greatest number of mushrooms earning the greatest profits for any mushroom company in Colombia and South America. We are recognized by the excellent quality of our products and the leadership in the development of mushrooms, how we supply them, and our negotiation capacity.

Setas Colombianas S.A. is the main provider of mushrooms in Colombia and the Andean market and is the first buying option for the countries in the Americas.
